School groups
The Cité de l’Océan welcomes school groups for visits and educational activities adapted to different grade levels. These visits allow students to expand their knowledge of marine ecosystems and their preservation.
Educational activities

Cycle 2
The educational team at the Cité de l’Océan offers a guided tour tailored to cycle 2 students. It was developed based on the teaching programs from the Éduscol portal.
Oral language is specifically emphasized during the educational activities. Taking part in speaking exercises allows students to be active participants in discussions, to express themselves, listen, understand others’ speech, and respond by offering a point of view or a suggestion.
Learning activity
The educational activity, in line with the subject “questioning the world”, allows students to apply their knowledge to describe and understand the world around them. In doing so, they develop their ability to reason and to begin forming a scientific approach.
Skill: "locating oneself in space"
The skill “locating oneself in space” is developed during the guided tour using precise language and specific vocabulary. Students are encouraged to apply their knowledge to identify and locate studied areas on a globe, such as the oceans. Then, they work on understanding the formation of these oceans and where the water in seas and oceans comes from.
Cycle 3
The educational team at the Cité de l’Océan offers two guided tours tailored to cycle 3 students. They were developed based on the teaching programs from the Éduscol portal.
Develop oral language
Oral language is used to clearly and orderly present explanations, information, or a point of view, to interact in a debate, and to participate in exchanges in various communication situations. This skill is developed throughout the educational activities of cycle 3, as students are encouraged to speak up, express themselves, interact, and share their opinions.
consolidate knowledge
Depending on the desired activity, students strengthen their knowledge related to:
– Underwater landforms and the animals that inhabit the depths.
– The oceans, their main characteristics, the formation of waves, the tide phenomenon, and their role as an energy resource.

Cycle 4
The educational team at the Cité de l’Océan offers three guided tours tailored to cycle 4 students. They were developed based on the teaching programs from the Éduscol portal.
Students are able to read and understand information from various sources. Oral language is used to clearly and orderly present explanations, information, or a point of view in increasingly complex situations. This skill is developed throughout the educational activities of cycle 4, as students are encouraged to speak up and deliver an organized speech using specific vocabulary.
Through these educational activities, cycle 4 students work on two themes from the science curriculum.
For grade 7 students
Fifth-grade students rediscover the origin of the formation of the oceans and the key characteristics of seawater. They discuss the fragility of the marine environment and the importance of preserving this resource. This aligns with theme 1: “The planet Earth, the environment, and human activity.”
For grade 8 students
For 8th-grade students, the focus is on the formation of the oceans and understanding the many resources they contain. They also make connections between tectonic movements and underwater landforms, which aligns with the biology and geology curriculum topic: “Internal activity and plate tectonics.”
For grade 9 students
The educational activity designed for 9th-grade students focuses more on the evolution of the oceans, as well as the evolution of cetaceans and how certain species adapt to different depths. This corresponds to theme 2: “Living organisms and their evolution” from the biology curriculum.
Complete the educational activity
Complete the educational activity with the optional fun visit. Your students will be able to surf Belharra and other iconic waves around the globe, dive 360° thanks to virtual reality, embark on a rough journey aboard the bathyscaphe, experience what it’s like to be a surfer standing on a dynamic surfboard equipped with a virtual reality headset, and dive into the heart of a pack of 700 sharks… (activities reserved for children 6 years and older).
Exploration of the rocky shore
Set off on an adventure along the rocky shore with an educational guide! This outing is specially designed for children aged 6 to 12, allowing them to closely observe the unexpected richness of marine fauna and flora.

A sensory and playful immersion
Crabs, anemones, seaweed, and other coastal treasures will be revealed as the tide flows. A sensory and fun immersionto better understand the life hidden there and learn how to preserve it.
Practical information:
- This outing is offered by reservation only.
Target audience: children aged 6 to 12.
Supervision: 1 guide for 20 participants (extra fee of €65) or 2 guides for larger groups (extra fee of €110).
