A unique collection of 80 historic surfboards!

Cité de l’Océan is proud and honoured to showcase a major part of the personal surfboard collection of Pierre-Bernard Gascogne.

These 80 boards reflect a lifelong passion for surfing, travel, waves, and beautiful objects, spanning from the 1940s to today!

Wood, vivid colours, legendary surf names, and anecdotes… These boards are being unveiled to the general public for the very first time, right here at the Cité de l’Océan in Biarritz!

Pierre-Bernard discovered surfing in Biarritz in the 1960s. His oceanography studies took him to Hawaii, where surfing became a true passion… He dedicated his life to it and co-founded, among other things, the well-known Surf Session magazine, appreciated by both seasoned surfers and curious newcomers.

Today, Mr. Gascogne is moved and proud to share this heritage with the people of Biarritz and the surfing community!

“This collection was only ever shown in bits and pieces. Some people saw a few boards… maybe I was shy about it, I’m not really sure,” says the collector, touched by this historic treasure.

It is important to share it here, in Biarritz, where surfing first arrived in Europe.

An exhibition to discover throughout the Cité de l’Océan.
