700 Sharks into the Night
Experience a 360° adventure in the heart of the Fakarava reserve in Polynesia, surrounded by a school of 700 grey reef sharks!

Into the school: immersion with 700 sharks
Dive into the largest shark gathering ever observed.
Welcome to the southern pass of Fakarava atoll, in French Polynesia, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Here, a unique natural phenomenon unfolds: over 700 grey reef sharks patrol the waters at night in perfect synchrony.
How do they hunt? Do they coordinate like a pack? This extraordinary scientific expedition was created to answer these questions and uncover the mysteries of a fascinating and still poorly understood animal choreography.
An expedition on the edge of science
Led by Laurent Ballesta, marine biologist and underwater photographer, this extraordinary mission required months of preparation. Since 2014, his team has been diving at night into the middle of hunting sharks. Every descent is a challenge: darkness, tension, unpredictability. The goal? To observe without disturbing. Thanks to virtual reality, you’ll experience this adventure from the inside, as close as possible to these predators, in full ocean immersion.
This VR documentary, directed by Manuel Lefèvre, is the result of a co-production between Cité de l’Océan, Le Cinquième Rêve, Neotopy, Ushuaïa TV, and Arte France.
